Who Do I Serve?

Children

My training and background is in school and child psychology, and I have extensive experience working with children and families. Children live within a system and I therefore work directly with parents and coordinate care with your child’s school to support your child’s development.

Adolescents

Adolescence is a unique developmental period in which an individual is exploring who they are while also testing boundaries. This time can pose stress for both the adolescent as well as their parents. I strive to create a space in which an adolescent can feel safe and trusted. I also work closely with parents, who often feel ill-equipped to navigate these challenges, and provide them with skills of how to best approach this period in their child’s development.

Young Adults

Young adulthood is a unique transitional period in which a person is transitioning out of adolescence to early adulthood. This period comes with many challenging transitions, such as, moving away from home, becoming independent, developing one’s own identity outside of the family, exploring professional opportunities, dating, navigating various relationships, and asserting boundaries. In order to promote a strong therapeutic relationship, I am able to collaborate with clients to identify, explore and navigate the various challenges of young adulthood.

Parent Consultation and Coaching

Parent work involves partnering with parents to develop strategies and skills to effectively manage their child’s behavior. Children can be incredibly reactive to their environments, and making small environmental changes can be integral to improving children’s behaviors and promoting healthy social-emotional and cognitive development. With my expertise in Parent Management Training (PMT), I can help you set limits, de-escalate conflict, establish clear and consistent routines and expectations, increase positive behaviors, and strengthen your relationship with your child.

Types of Treatment

Evidence-Based Care

Evidence-based care is the integration of research-based treatments, clinical expertise, with individual characteristics, culture, and values. Because of the effectiveness of evidence-based interventions, it is the recommended treatment by the American Psychological Association (APA). Evidence-based treatment has consistently shown symptom reduction and overall improvement in quality of life through controlled clinical trials. In addition to being grounded in scientific research, evidence-based care is also individually tailored to each person’s unique needs. I utilize various evidence-based approaches and individualize treatment to each patient and family.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based, active treatment that is based on the notion that one’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. CBT focuses on behavior change by building more adaptive ways to cope with emotions and by challenging ineffective cognitions in order to create more effective thoughts. I am trained in a variety of CBT approaches, including Trauma-Focused Therapy (TF-CBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), exposure response prevention (ERP), parent management training (PMT), organization skills training, social skills training, and cognitive behavioral treatments for anxiety disorders and depression.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment for individuals who struggle with regulating and tolerating their emotions. Individuals who benefit from this treatment tend to feel their emotions intensely and react to their urges impulsively, which can create impairments in functioning, especially with respect to relationships, work, and school. DBT works to increase an individual’s mindfulness skills, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. Through this approach, the individual is able to learn healthier ways of approaching their stressors. I am comprehensively trained in DBT and utilize DBT-informed approaches in my treatment.
